Things have been so busy at the harbor ~ the Holiday Season is right on our heels! I am so excited to decorate for Christmas this year ~ last year we were packing up our house getting ready to move.

I got an early Christmas present ~my oldest son Darren is going to be stationed in Hawaii for the next 3 years.

In the meantime I have been designing a few new Typography / Subway Stencils including a few Patriotic ~ Everyday Rules and a Snowman design. I am not finished yet as I am always working on something new.

Sharing Some Of My Dad With You

My Dads whole life was all about being a US Army Soldier. He had served 2 tours in Vietnam, he later went to OCS at Ft Benning, Ga. and became an officer. After 9/11 all he wanted to do was go back into the Army to fight for our Freedoms. At age 57 he joined back up through a special program. He served 1 year in Afghanistan and went on to Iraq to train Iraqi soldiers. At age 60 he was killed by a roadside bomb in Basra Iraq.
He is the oldest U.S. service member of all Military Branches to die in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Thank you Daddy for your selfless sacrifice. You are truly our HERO and will not be forgotten.

Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men
Who signed the Declaration of Independence?

Five signers were captured by the British as traitors,
and tortured before they died.

Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned.
Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army;
another had two sons captured.

Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or
hardships of the Revolutionary War.
They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes,
and their sacred honor.

What kind of men were they?

Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists.
Eleven were merchants,
nine were farmers and large plantation owners;
men of means, well educated,
but they signed the Declaration of Independence
knowing full well that the penalty would be death if
they were captured .
Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and
trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the
British Navy. He sold his home and properties to
pay his debts, and died in rags.
Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British
that he was forced to move his family almost constantly.
He served in the Congress without pay, and his family
was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him,
and poverty was his reward.
Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer,
Walton, Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton.
At the battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson, Jr., noted that
the British General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson
home for his headquarters. He quietly urged General
George Washington to open fire. The home was destroyed,
and Nelson died bankrupt.
Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed.
The enemy jailed his wife, and she died within a few months.
John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying.
Their 13 children fled for their lives. His fields and his gristmill
were laid to waste. For more than a year he lived in forests
and caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his
children vanished.

So, take a few minutes while enjoying your 4th of July holiday and
silently thank these patriots. It's not much to ask for the price they
paid.

Hello! I really love to design and sometimes its a race getting everything out of my head in time LOLOL...I can imagine how crazy that must sound but its true! I am already geared up for Fall/Halloween/Winter and Christmas its hard to know when to start but I say the sooner the better especially if you wholesale your signs to shops they need to order early and have stuff ready to put out in September which if you think about is only a little more than 2 months away and if you are doing craft shows you really need to stock up and be ready! Hope yall like the new stuff =)

My middle son Drew just graduated high school June 13th, 2010 ~ during his 4 years at Gig Harbor High he spent his jr and senior years attending Culinary Arts School. He is really a good cook I am very proud of him! Back in May they had an Iron Chef competition and his team won!!! They each received an Emerill Lagasse Deep Iron Skillet!

Mini Game Board Samplers For Sale

Hello I have made these little Mini Game Board Samplers for years and thought if anyone is interested in a set and would like to purchase one you can do so here.

They are made on Solid Pine small squares measuring approx 6" x 6" each square. There are 6 in each set. You get 1 Backgammon 1 Checkers 1 Chess 2 Parcheesis and 1 Chinese Checkers. The little game boards are actually fabric and I grubby them in a coffee/ vanilla mixture to make them look very old and believe me they do look perfectly prim. They come with sawtooth hangers.

I offer these in 3 Background colors Deep Burgundy, Black and Mustard. 1 set is $19.99 plus shipping in the USPS Flat Rate Priority Box $10.70 I can fit up to 2 sets in this box.

For those who think this shipping is too high ...think about if you lined these game boards up it would make a 6 x 36 long sign and shipping for a sign can cost well over $15.00 depending on where it went probably more.

Here is an UPDATE on the Poor Customer Service I received at Fred Meyers Starbucks. I got this letter in the mail today and it had a $25.00 Gift Card enclosed.

It was yesterday that I became a fan of Fred Meyers on FB and I told my story on their WALL I also left a comment on their Wall to look for me on TWITTER, so I found them on twitter and started following them there as well and tweeted my story. I later received a phone call from the director of this store. He apologized on behalf of all those involved including their managers. I explained to him how he should use this incident as a "Teaching Tool" and he assured me he already has......and honestly after all that NETWORKING I did I somehow believe him. I have to say he was very nice to me and I figured that was the end of it. I did not ask him for anything I didnt make him feel like he owed me anything so today when I got that in the mail I was really surprised. I am happy it's over and now I can talk about something else...LOL!!!

So disappointed in Starbucks inside Fred Meyers in Port Orchard Washington....the Barista told me she was closing in 3 minutes and my drink took too long to make so she refused me service...so I asked for a Manager....here comes Mr Young manager who I can see must have a secret crush on barista and tells me she is over worked and short handed...hhhmmmm meanwhile only me and my daughter standing there...no big line of folks waiting on drinks...so I ask to speak to his manager I just want to know if their policy is to refuse service to patrons whos drinks take a long time to make even though they are not closed or about to close in 3 minutes....he assures me that it is NOT their policy and tells the Barista to make my drinks. She glances at the 1st manager and rolls her eyes. So now Barista is crying black mascara smearing her face and I guess I am supposed to feel bad....NOT..... she turns to me and tells they cant afford to make that big pot of tea and me only buy 2 Venti Black Teas....and I say to her Girl, you cant afford NOT to sell to me. I am still so mad I am going to call them and file a formal complaint. So Starbucks inside Fred Meyers you wont never make another dime off me and I mean that!

These are Gingerbread Blocks I made these on 3/4" thick solid pine They are fabric onto wood. I painted the wood in Navy Blue Burgundy and Hunter Green. Each one is Speckled,Sanded and Stained in Minwax Early American. Each one measures approx
7 1/4" x 5 1/2" They DO NOT have Sawtooth Hangers On the Back, you will have to supply your own if you want to hang them up.

I am asking $3.50 each OR if you want all 13 of them $3.00 each. These are nice enough to resell OR they would make a nice gift for a Ginger Collector.

If you want them ALL I will ship them UPS as that will be cheaper than the US Post Office. If you want to buy 1 or 2 or so it will be calculated by your zone and exact shipping will be charged.

We drove up to Seattle this morning for BREAKFAST at Beths Cafe on Aurora. This was a restaurant that was featured on Man VS Food and ever since it aired my son Drew wanted to see if he could take the challenge of a 12 egg omelet filled with ham, cheese and mushrooms all laid on top of crispy hash browns and 4 pieces of toast.

MY GOODWILL STUFF

OK tonight I decided to take a few pictures of some of the Goodwill stuff I have been picking up. Everything you see here was under $20.00 total....I always seem to spend 4 dollars and change everytime I go. That big Angel Blowing the Horn was $1.99 plus 50% 0ff. She was a great find. The picture of the Girl is very old. It looks like its mounted on a 1/4" board. The edges are tattered I think I am going to glue them down and let that be it. I paid $2.99 for it. I think she looks Prim.
Anyway now I have to get busy with the makeovers. I hope they look as good as yalls!

They are famous for raising rates arent they? I know how many sellers they have already ran off...Good Grief they really know how to stick it to us!
A Basic Store which I have right now is $15.95 a month plus I have around 1500 listings which cost 3 cents each and renew every month...then I have about 25 live listings which run 35 cents each...sound so cheap right? Well No after they get the ending fees I sometimes pay ebay 400.00 plus dollars a month and that is with my Good Seller Status 20 % discount.
So what are they up to now? They want to make the Basic Store so expensive that we are forced into the $49.95 a month store...here's how they are doing it.......Basic Store still $15.95 a month but all listings cost 20 cents each making this store with around 1500 listings plus ending fees will cost well over $500.00 a month Please note this is not with 1500 sales only an average amount of sales based on the last 12 months. Ebay does everything in their favor....WOW.... so heres what they want us to do....take the $49.95 a month store and all listings in that store cost 5 cents each.....with everything else off the table thats TRIPLE store cost and 40% more listing fee.....SO..........
I had to increase my 6" x 24" stencil from $5.99 to $7.99 ...TRUST me this not making me rich, had I kept them at $5.99 I might as well pay people to buy them. And if you are an ebay buyer I want you to know you can always shop my website Folk Art From The Harbor and still find my 6 x 24's for $5.99 each.

They added so much detail. Even plain things were all fancied up in their ads. I love designing my own old time ads into stencils. Sometimes I have to think about it for a long time and sometimes its just there. I Love this Baby Buggy.

You know how some people display Game Boards ? I keep seeing a wall of a mixture of Old Game Boards and Old Ads ...LOL...I reckon I have eaten at one too many Cracker Barrels or Country BBQs!

She sent me some brochures from her region and some beautiful Victorian Santa die cuts she picked up at the Christmas Market in her town.
